The annual Carol Service which took place on Thursday 27th November was, yet again, a resounding success.
It started with a reindeer parade, organized by Asda, with children walking from Asda to the Town Square for the switching on of the Christmas lights. Carols were played by Golborne Brass Band.
The event was organized by the Township Manager Andrew Sharrock, Community Development Worker Janine Morton, Town Centre Manager Emma Gaster, The Community Forum and Asda Events Co-ordinator Emma Simm.
Refreshments were provided in Heath Street Methodist Church hall and many thanks go to Tootill’s Butchers for the buffet they provided and also to Asda for drinks and refreshments. Thanks also to Hair at 64 for providing electricity, Golborne Rotary Club for acting as marshals and to the Golborne Councillors for funding.
The Christmas Festivities which took place on Saturday 6th December in the Community Primary School proved to be another success story.
It was the sixth such annual free event provided by The Community Forum for the children of Golborne and Lowton with the help of all the team who did the Carole Service along with the Head Teacher, Sure Start Development Worker Sheila Carletti and Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust Playin’ Out Team.
Funding for the event was provided by Wigan Council Community Chest, Shaun McManus Trust Fund, Golborne Councillors, Asda Golborne and public donations at the Carol Service.
Meetings are already taking place to organize Christmas 2009.
