Kenyon Hall has been farmed by the same family for almost four hundred years and was traditionally a mixed arable farm growing cereals and potatoes.
Originally consisting of 166 acres it has since grown to six hundred acres. Tod Bulmer the current owner gave a brief history of the changes in farming methods and the impact of mechanisation which has completely modernised farming.
He and his wife Barbara took over the farm in 1978 and began to produce strawberries and vegetables. Since then the farm has developed in to one of the leading pick your own farms in the Northwest and both Tod and Barbara regularly make jams and chutneys to sell in the thriving farm shop which is currently open throughout the year.
In 2002 they diversified by setting up a home delivery service called North west Harvest selling fresh fruit and vegetables (some organic) and formed partnerships with other producers. They now offer over three thousand items including fresh local meat, home cooked ready meals and a wide vegetarian and organic range.
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month and the next meeting is on Wednesday 6th May at 7-15pm at the Golborne Parkside sports and community club on Rivington Ave. For further details ring Norma on 01942 601934
