A MAN accused of brandishing a samurai sword in public has appeared in court.

Michael Kelly, 27, appeared before Wigan Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with brandishing a blade on Lowe Street, Golborne, on May 5 last year.

Kelly is also charged with possession of cannabis and cannabis production, alongside his former housemate, Robert Hughes, 26.

Hughes, now of The Paddocks, Thursby, Carlisle, is also charged with possession of cannabis and possession of the class C drug Alprazolam.

Kelly, now of Windrows, Skelmersdale, and Hughes were granted unconditional bail pending a committal hearing to the crown court at Wigan Magistrates’ Court on June 16.
